Caffeine and L-theanine combinations
Caffeine with L-theanine is a common pairing in focus pre-workouts and gaming drinks. There is no universal ratio. Serving size, pack and label rules decide what is workable. It is not a medical combination.

Caffeine with L-theanine is a pairing many brands use when the drink should feel alert without tasting or feeling like a harsh energy shot. You see it in moderate-stim gym products, focus pre-workouts and gaming sticks. Caffeine is the stimulant position. L-theanine is an amino acid from tea, used here as a formula companion, not as a herbal medicine.
The pairing is common because the two materials are familiar, relatively easy to dose in a powder, and easy to talk about without inventing a new category. It is not a licensed drug combination. It does not treat anxiety, ADHD or sleep disorders. Pack text stays inside caffeine rules plus whatever theanine wording your market actually allows, which is often very little.
There is no universal ratio
Internet charts that lock 1:2 or 2:1 as the only scientific pair are a poor manufacturing brief. Total caffeine, other stimulants, serving weight, stick versus tub, and how sour the flavour is all change what you can dissolve and what you can defend. A 100 mg caffeine stick with 200 mg theanine is a different product from a 300 mg gym scoop with 100 mg theanine. Both can be made. Neither is the law of nature.
Start with caffeine milligrams the customer will accept, at the time of day they train or play. Then decide whether theanine is a small companion or a visible line on the panel. A tiny theanine dusting next to 400 mg caffeine is a marketing line, not a pairing. A huge theanine load next to 80 mg caffeine is a tea-amino drink with a caffeine footnote. Pick the product.
Taste, serving and pack
Caffeine is bitter. Theanine is milder but still a load in a small stick. Fruit and iced-tea flavours hide the pair more easily than a dessert milkshake flavour. We flavour at the full caffeine and theanine dose in the printed water volume. A sample with half the caffeine will sign off a drink that the customer then calls harsh.
Tubs start at 300 finished units per product and flavour. Stick packs start at 5,000 finished units. A stick is a good format for a named caffeine milligram that cannot be double-scooped. A tub is a good format for a 15 g moderate-stim scoop that also carries a small pump cut. Do not put a 350 mg caffeine load in a tub without assuming some customers will scoop twice. The warning panel has to live with that.
Where briefs go wrong
Copying a 2:1 ratio without a caffeine number. Asking for “calm energy” as a medical claim. Stacking theanine on a high-stim formula that already uses other stimulants, then wondering why the drink is bitter and the label is a novel. Treating theanine as a reason to drop caffeine warnings. Caffeine still needs the warnings of your market.
If the drink also carries tyrosine, a choline source or extra stimulants, theanine is not a licence to skip the rest of the flavour and legal work. Each extra material is a line on the panel, a taste in the glass and a cost in the kilo. A clean caffeine-theanine pair in a fruit stick is often the better SKU than a crowded “nootropic stack” that cannot be labelled in the EU.
Stick versus tub is a caffeine-control choice as much as a logistics choice. If you cannot tolerate a double scoop, the stick is the pack. If you want a larger serving with a pump cut, the tub is the pack. Do not mix those jobs in one SKU and hope the warning panel does the rest.
Name session type (gym, focus, gaming), caffeine milligrams, whether theanine should be a visible panel line, flavour and pack. Configure that in the pre-workout builder. We quote a pairing that dissolves, labels and ships. We will not quote a treatment for stress or attention disorders in a fruit stick.

Gaming supplement formulation
A gaming supplement is a session drink for long screen time: moderate caffeine or none, flavour people will sip, and a formula that is not a gym pre-workout with a controller on the tub.

High-stim vs moderate-stim vs stim-free
High-stim, moderate-stim and stim-free are commercial positions on a pre-workout line. They change caffeine, who drinks the product, what else fits in the scoop, and how the pack is sold.
